Difficulty
The PTC relay and OLP (overload protector) are responsible for supplying and monitoring the current to your compressor.
Tools needed:
- Phillips screwdriver
- Flathead screwdriver
- Needle-nose pliers
-
First, locate the compressor switch cover on the left side of the compressor. MAKE SURE YOUR UNIT IS UNPLUGGED
-
Unscrew the screws to remove the two plastic parts of the cover.
-
Insert flathead inside the cover as shown below. Angle the screwdriver upwards and push up against the cover ceiling while pulling the cover away and counter-clockwise with your other hand. This may prove a little difficult, but eventually you will hear plastic unclipping and the cover will pull off.
-
Pulling off the plastic cover will reveal components connected onto the compressor. This is PTC relay and overload protector.
-
Pull the components from the compressor and take note that the white wire is connected to the PTC (round part) while the black wire is connected to the overload protector (black and white part). Replace these components with your new set of parts. Use your needle-nose pliers to remove the wire connections.
-
Insert the overload connector first into the top-middle prong as shown below (left). Then insert the PTC relay into the bottom two prongs.
- Place back the plastic cover. It will be much easier to put back on than removing it. Then screw on the plastic parts removed from step 2. The compressor switch replacement is now complete.
